Senior Power BI Data Architect

We are seeking a Senior Power BI Data Architect to help lead a large-scale enterprise BI modernization initiative focused on migrating from IBM Cognos to Microsoft Power BI.

This role is ideal for someone who combines deep hands-on Power BI expertise with strong architectural experience across semantic modeling, enterprise data warehousing, cloud platforms, and analytics governance. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in building scalable reporting foundations that support self-service analytics across multiple business domains.

You will partner closely with Data Architects, Engineering teams, and business stakeholders to design and implement modern, high-performing BI solutions in a cloud-based environment.

This role requires a combination of technical depth, strong communication skills, and the ability to partner effectively across engineering, analytics, and business teams.

The ideal candidate is collaborative, solution-oriented, and passionate about building scalable analytics platforms that deliver long-term business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and develop scalable enterprise semantic models to support self-service Power BI analytics

  • Partner with Data Architects and ETL teams to ingest, transform, and prepare complex datasets for reporting and analytics consumption

  • Design and optimize star schemas, relational models, and enterprise reporting structures

  • Develop and maintain high-performance Power BI datasets, dashboards, and reports using advanced DAX and data modeling techniques

  • Monitor and optimize Power BI Workspaces and Fabric capacities to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability

  • Troubleshoot and resolve report rendering, dataset refresh, and performance bottlenecks

  • Establish and enforce enterprise standards, governance policies, and best practices for Power BI development

  • Lead initiatives related to metadata management, data lineage, data quality, and reporting documentation

  • Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into scalable BI solutions

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to both IT teams and business users

  • Support CI/CD deployment processes and source control best practices across BI environments

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of overall IT experience, including 5+ years in BI architecture, analytics engineering, or enterprise reporting

  • Advanced hands-on experience with Power BI, including:

    • Semantic modeling

    • DAX

    • Power Query

    • Performance optimization

    • Enterprise reporting architecture

    • Fabric capacities

  • Strong expertise in relational databases and SQL development, including complex query writing and optimization

  • Experience working with cloud-based data warehousing platforms such as Amazon Redshift

  • Strong understanding of enterprise data modeling, dimensional modeling, and star schema design

  • Experience working within AWS cloud environments and related database services

  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines and analytics data architecture

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within large enterprise environments

  • Experience with source control and CI/CD deployment processes using Azure DevOps or similar tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IBM Cognos architecture or migration initiatives

  • Experience with Informatica IDMC Cloud Data Catalog and Governance

  • Background supporting enterprise-wide self-service analytics initiatives

  • Exposure to data governance, lineage, and enterprise reporting strategy initiatives

Additional Details

  • 5 days a week on-site (Winston-Salem, NC or Radnor, PA)
