Position Overview
The Select Group is seeking an experienced Principal / Lead Piping Designer to support design activities for natural gas transmission projects.
This is a senior-level, hands-on design position requiring someone who can independently take ownership of piping projects while continuing to perform detailed design work. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience within oil & gas industry and have the technical knowledge necessary to lead projects from design development through completion.
Natural gas pipeline experience is not required but is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Significant professional experience in piping design within the oil & gas industry
- Senior, Principal, or Lead-level experience with the ability to independently own piping design projects.
- Strong hands-on piping design capabilities
- Proficiency and deep experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D
- Strong knowledge of:
- Piping materials and components
- Piping layouts and design
- Equipment and material selection
- Vendor coordination
- Demonstrated ability to pick up projects with limited oversight and drive design activities independently.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
- Strong communication, organization, and project ownership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting natural gas transmission projects.
- Civil 3D experience is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead piping design activities for natural gas transmission and aboveground facility projects.
- Independently take ownership of piping design projects and drive work from initial requirements through completed design deliverables.
- Remain actively involved in hands-on design work while serving as the technical/project lead for assigned piping projects.
- Develop and modify piping layouts, equipment arrangements, and associated design drawings.
- Utilize AutoCAD Plant 3D to develop and maintain piping designs and project deliverables.
- Apply practical knowledge of piping materials, components, specifications, and equipment to design decisions.
- Support material and equipment selection based on project requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors and understand vendor capabilities, materials, and equipment as they relate to piping design.
- Collaborate with engineering and design disciplines including civil/structural, pipeline, electrical, instrumentation, and meter/regulation design.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve design issues, and maintain project progress.
- Review designs and drawings for technical quality, constructability, and completeness.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance while maintaining personal ownership of design deliverables.
- Support multiple projects and priorities within the broader Design Services & Integration organization.
