PROJECT CONTROLS SPECIALIST
The Select Group is hiring a Project Controls specialist. This position will be 100% with potential for occasional travel.


A project controls specialist manages the commercial aspects of large infrastructure, utilities, and construction projects, including accounting, contracts, and supplier management. They work with project managers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. 
 
Must Have Skills:

  • 8+ years of direct Project Controls experience within the construction industry
  • Must have experience supporting the cost controls of large-scale infrastructure, utility, and/or construction projects
  • Cost controls, budget forecasting, and financial data collection/reporting experience
  • Project Schedule Management experience
  • Contract management, negotiation, and administration experience
    • Procurement processes, due diligence, contract negotiations, submitting change orders, managing purchase orders, submitting RFI's, etc.
  • Strong communication skills, collaborative & proactive mindset, ability to work in a fast paced environment

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Data Center experience
  • Utilities and/or Civil Engineering background
  • Education: Accounting / Finance background
  • Familiarity with land acquisition (zoning, permitting), utility management, and contract negotiation
  • Hold active and relevant Certifications


Day to day responsibilities:
  • Overall:
    • Quickly become a core member of the NASA (North America and South America) control team with a strong focus schedule controls and financial data accuracy.
    • Develop and manage detailed project schedules, budgets, and forecasts aligned with infrastructure and land acquisition milestones.
    • Track and report on project performance using EVM and other metrics to ensure budget and timeline adherence.
    • Coordinate with real estate, utility, and engineering teams to monitor land acquisition and infrastructure progress.
    • Monitor utility negotiations and infrastructure projects to address any potential delays or risks.
    • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams to align on timelines, budgets, and delivery schedules.
    • Manage change control processes and maintain accurate project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Provide financial reports and assist with audits as required, ensuring compliance with cost management procedures
  • Internal tools you’ll be using: Skyvine, Quickbase, Accord, Primavera
  • Specific:
    • Schedule Development, Management & Forecasting
      • Develop and manage detailed project schedules aligned to infrastructure buildout and land acquisition milestones
      • Maintain and update schedules to reflect real-time progress, dependencies, and constraints
      • Ensure schedule integrity across all workstreams (real estate, utilities, engineering, construction)
      • Build and maintain integrated master schedules (IMS) across multiple stakeholders
      • Develop forward-looking forecasts incorporating risks, delays, and opportunities
      • Identify critical path activities and proactively mitigate schedule risks
    • Schedule Performance Tracking & Reporting
      • Track day-to-day project progress against schedule baselines
      • Analyze schedule performance using:
      • Prepare and deliver regular status
      • Provide transparent reporting to project managers and stakeholders on timeline performance
    • Cross-Functional Coordination & Schedule Alignment
      • Coordinate with:
        • Real estate teams (land acquisition milestones)
        • Utility providers (capacity, timelines, negotiations)
        • Engineering & construction teams
      • Align vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to project schedules and delivery timelines
      • Monitor utility negotiations and infrastructure readiness to prevent downstream delays
      • Ensure all parties are aligned to milestones, sequencing, and dependencies
    • Risk, Change & Contingency Management
      • Identify and manage schedule risks and potential delays proactively
      • Implement:
        • Change management processes
        • Risk management frameworks
        • Contingency planning
      • Evaluate impact of:
        • Scope changes
        • Contract changes
        • External dependencies
      • Maintain updated schedules reflecting approved changes and revised timelines
    • Cost Tracking, Forecasting & Financial Controls
      • Monitor project costs vs. budget and track overall financial performance
      • Support EVM-based cost and schedule integration
      • Develop and maintain cost forecasts aligned with schedule progress
      • Track:
        • Cash flow
        • Invoice processing
        • Budget adherence
    • Financial Reporting & Compliance
      • Provide financial reporting and audit support
      • Ensure compliance with:
        • Internal cost management procedures
        • Accounting guidelines
      • Partner with project managers to provide budget vs. actual transparency
    • Contract & Commercial Oversight
      • Ensure adherence to commercial contract terms
      • Manage contract changes and change orders
      • Align contract deliverables with project schedules and milestones
    • Vendor & Subcontractor Management
      • Coordinate with construction subcontractors and suppliers to:
        • Maintain project quality
        • Ensure on-time delivery
      • Monitor vendor performance against schedule commitments
    • Resource Planning
      • Determine resource requirements based on schedule needs
      • Ensure availability of:
        • Labor
        • Materials
        • Equipment
      • Proactively place orders to avoid schedule delays
    • Project Reviews & Lifecycle Management
      • Organize and lead project reviews across the lifecycle
      • Coordinate:
        • Milestone reviews
        • Performance checkpoints
        • Project close-out activities
      • Evaluate overall project progress and drive corrective actions
    • Document & Data Management
      • Manage electronic document management systems (EDMS)
      • Ensure:
        • Accurate project documentation
        • Compliance with procedures
        • Proper contractor documentation tracking
      • Maintain audit-ready project records
    • Stakeholder Communication & Accountability
      • Communicate:
        • Project updates
        • Risks and delays
        • Mitigation plans
      • Maintain open communication channels across all stakeholders
      • Hold teams and partners accountable to:
        • Schedule commitments
        • Budget constraints
      • Facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-team alignment
