Transmission Line Engineer ( Houston, TX)
The Selects Group is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to support transmission planning, design, and cost-estimating activities for utility infrastructure projects. This role will work closely with internal engineering teams, transmission planning groups, and external stakeholders to develop transmission line designs, perform engineering calculations, and prepare project estimates used for budgeting, regulatory approvals, and system planning.
Transmission Line Engineer Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
- 4+ years of transmission line design experience
- Hands-on experience with PLS-CADD
- Experience performing engineering calculations and transmission line design analysis
- Strong understanding of utility transmission systems and engineering principles
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards and codes, including NESC, ASCE, AEIC, and IEEE
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external engineering teams
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Experience with SAP, GIS, or other utility engineering software
- Prior utility industry experience supporting transmission planning, cost estimating, or capital project development
- Develop and review transmission line designs and engineering calculations
- Utilize PLS-CADD and other engineering tools to support transmission projects
- Prepare conceptual designs, scope development, and high-level cost estimates for transmission system improvements and interconnection projects
- Collaborate with transmission planning, design, construction, and operations teams to gather project requirements and assumptions
- Analyze labor, material, environmental, and location-based factors to develop accurate project estimates
- Support project justification studies, budgeting efforts, and regulatory approval processes
- Interpret and apply applicable engineering standards, utility practices, and regulatory requirements
- Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external consultants, vendors, and contractors
- Participate in field visits, inspections, and project reviews as needed
- Support emergency response and system restoration efforts when required
- Manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines and business objectives
- Combination of office and field-based work
- Occasional travel to project sites, meetings, and conferences
- May require work outside normal business hours to support project deadlines or emergency response activities
- Exposure to outdoor environments, varying weather conditions, construction sites, and energized utility facilities
