Radio Frequency Test Engineer
The Select Group is seeking a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to execute hands-on testing and proof-of-concept (PoC) activities focused on evaluating new broadband access technologies and network solutions. This role is centered around building and configuring test environments, operating RF and broadband test equipment, troubleshooting lab-related issues, and delivering clear technical findings to assess the feasibility, performance limitations, and trade-offs of broadband network solutions.

RF Test Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering, RF testing, broadband access technologies, or related technical lab environments.
  • Hands-on experience setting up and executing lab-based tests.
  • Experience using RF and broadband test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, signal generators, power meters, or field meters.
  • Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals, broadband network components, and measurement practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in lab setups and adapt test methods as needed.
  • Ability to document results and communicate findings clearly to technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on and curious and comfortable building and modifying test setups.
  • Practical problem solver focused on getting data quickly.
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity and adjusting test approaches as new information is discovered.
  • Strong attention to detail in test execution, documentation, and data capture.
  • Clear communicator of findings without overcomplicating results.
  • Collaborative team member who can work across engineering, lab, vendor, and field groups.

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with HFC networks, DOCSIS technologies, RF amplifiers, nodes, passives, or outside plant components.
  • Familiarity with DOCSIS-related tools and concepts such as PNM, spectrum analysis, OFDM/OFDMA testing, MER, BER, or channel power measurements.
  • Experience supporting proof-of-concept testing, technology evaluations, or early-stage product assessments.
  • Basic scripting or automation experience for test execution, data capture, or analysis, such as Python.
RF Test Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Build, configure, and maintain lab test environments for broadband access technology evaluations and proof-of-concept activities.
  • Set up and operate RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, signal generators, meters, and related lab tools.
  • Configure and test RF systems, including amplifiers, nodes, passives, and other HFC network components under varying operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot test setup issues, equipment configuration problems, and measurement inconsistencies.
  • Iterate on test approaches and configurations to quickly collect meaningful data and validate technical assumptions.
  • Consolidated PoC test data into clear technical summaries that highlighted key findings, risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate test records, configurations, observations, and supporting data for future reference and decision-making.
