Position Title: Field Technical Advisor
Company: Top utility company in SoCal
Remote/Onsite: Primarily field and remote with occasional office days as needed
Work Location: Monterey Park
Field Work: Dispersed across Southern California (San Diego – San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles to Riverside)
Education Requirement:
- High School Diploma/GED is required
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Top Skills:
- 5+ years of relevant experience with a background in Transmission, Distribution, and/or Customer Service Field operations and related technologies and processes.
- Experience in the Utilities or Telecom industry
- Ability to work in the field due to the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- General computer skills:
- Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of spreadsheets and database analysis tools.
- Must be able to determine project requirements, assess the abilities within the work group, and appropriately delegate to team members.
- Must possess the ability to review complex problems and propose innovative solutions, which involve technical and operational issues, and may link new concepts and technologies.
- Ability to effectively interact with various departments to maintain open lines of communication.
- Must clearly and concisely communicate technical and economic concepts with all levels of management in both formal and informal settings.
- Good oral and written communication skills.

The Field Technical Advisor will support the Control Center Modernization, Engineering and Field Technology workstream. Provide technical support in the deployment and commissioning of new sensing equipment installed across Transmission systems as part of CCM scope to support field deployments across Southern California. Assist in the development and execution of factory and site acceptance testing, and point-to-point functional validations for deployed field assets and systems. Serve as a technical expert and provide field support for deployed field assets and technologies. Provide support for the development and implementation of new control room and field operations processes and procedures related to the deployed field technologies.
Day to day responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates, and executes site commissioning efforts for hand off to gas operations.
- Develops and reviews gas operations procedures and designs; associated tools, equipment, and pipeline components.
- Prescribes test methods for evaluating materials for use in the gas operations system.
- Provides technical assistance to clients through the support of programs, technology and strategic applications.
- Applies technical principles to analyze and resolve problems.
- Tests and evaluates new technologies, tools, materials and equipment as appropriate.
- Serves as a consultant and project leader on special teams, utilizing individual skills and teamwork to resolve issues.
- Manages and coordinates all activities leading to the successful completion of multiple projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
- Travel throughout SoCalGas and SDG&E service territories with overnight stays as needed.
- Work will primarily be remote but will have occasional office days and as needed
