Position Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Start Date: ASAP
Location: Santa Clara, CA – fully onsite
Duration: 6+month contract to hire (opportunity for conversion after 6-12 months)

Project Details:
A leading networking company is looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer focused on tooling. This role will sit within manufacturing and be a part of a new team, the infrastructure design team. This team will be focused on the design, development, and validation of tooling and fixtures that support NPI and high volume manufacturing. The Mechanical Design Engineer will have the opportunity to ideate and build tools from concept to CAD development to production in order to improve and support product manufacturing.

Must have skills:
  • 5-7 years of mechanical design experience creating tooling and fixtures
  • Fluent in 3D CAD and Creo/ProEngineer (SolidWorks not sufficient)
  • Experience working in manufacturing design (designing jigs, tooling, fixtures, etc.)
  • Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA
  • Understanding of fabrication methods (CNC, molding, sheet metal)
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including hardware engineering, platform design, reliability engineering, test, etc.
  • Experience working with CMs (contract manufacturers) from prototype to build. Must be willing to travel internationally to CMs on occasion.
Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with liquid cooling
  • Experience writing python scripts for automation
  • Experience with Agile PLM and Windchill PDMLink

Background/industry:
Has worked at a networking or semiconductor company, e.g. LAM Research, Applied Materials, Cisco, Juniper, etc.

Education: 
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering

Day to Day responsibilities:
  • Engineer, design, and validate custom tooling, test fixtures, and jigs to support high-volume production.
  • Translate mechanical and process requirements into CAD models, engineering drawings, and detailed documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback to optimize DFM/DFT aspects of new products.
  • Partner closely with Hardware Engineering, Platform Design, CM partners, and Reliability Engineering teams.
  • Select and specify manufacturing processes (CNC, injection molding, sheet metal, coatings) as applicable to designed tools.
  • Drive tolerance stack-up analysis for complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Interface with overseas CMs and vendors to enable tool release, prototype builds, and pilot production.
  • Investigate and recommend new manufacturing technologies to improve quality and cost- effectiveness of tooling solutions.
  • Create and manage BOMs, ECOs, and revision histories using Agile PLM and Windchill PDMLink.

TECHNICAL PRODUCT MANAGER REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Must possess previous professional experience working on projects related to Wireless Device Technologies - specifically SIM & eSIM (Digital SIM cards to wireless networking device/technologies or mobile devices/technologies)
  • Possessing at least 3 Years professional experience as a Technical Product Manager, Product Manager, or Product Analyst
  • Expertise launching multiple products, OEM devices, or physical mobile devices ideally within an enterprise environment
  • Must be comfortable during a lifecycle process execution, development, and deployment of products and new technologies
  • Experienced with identifying and delivering creative opportunities to achieve business organization goals
  • Strong ability to collaborate with stakeholder and cross-functional teams to identify true requirements and product roadmaps, as well as to identify roadblocks and realistic timelines of deployments
  • Ideally possessing previous Telecommunication industry experience of strong industry knowledge

TECHNICAL PRODUCT MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Define product requirements for connected devices to meet business and technical needs
  • Collaborate with OEMs and third-party partners to ensure successful integration and commercialization of new eSIM features for B2B markets
  • Conduct post-launch analysis to identify optimization areas, system updates, or additional feature releases for eSIM Number Transfer process
  • Implement a streamlined onboarding and development process for new devices and features, including technical testing with partners (OEMs)
  • Coordinate feature request handling and stakeholder feedback incorporation to improve the development process and product quality
  • Communicate product development milestones, service feature updates, and project timelines to internal teams and external stakeholders

Daily Responsibilities: 
  • Perform comprehensive lab testing of TR-069 (CWMP) Remote Management functionalities on Verizon customer premise equipment (CPE), including routers, extenders and Set Top Boxes.
  • Conduct rigorous testing for software upgrades and downgrades on CPE devices to ensure smooth deployments and device stability.
  • Review technical requirements and provide feedback on their clarity and completeness and create detailed test cases based on requirements to ensure our devices adhere to all specifications.
  • Identify, document, and meticulously track software defects and inconsistencies using our issue tracking system, JIRA.
  • Replicate and troubleshoot remote management issues reported from production environment to assist in root cause analysis.
  • Deep dive into device logs to find evidence, troubleshoot problems, and provide clear, actionable information to the development team.
  • Work closely with development and production support teams to explain identified issues, assist in troubleshooting, and support software deployments.
